There has long been tension between the three Great Nations of the Kishin continent. The conflicts between various minor nations have intensified pre-existing resentments. However, it was the Assault on Moonspire that provided the proverbial spark that ignited the powder keg of World War. Damian Darhk, a Kumo citizen, had developed a reputation as being an ingenious military technologist. He had upgraded Kumo’s military and had planned to usher in a new age of techno-warfare. Kiri perceived this progress as a threat to their own national interests. Fed up with Kumo’s intrusion into the affairs of others, Mizukage Hana Kaguya initiated a plan to take down the CEO. With the help of Akihiro Uchiha and his private intelligence agency, they assassinated Damian Darhk and destroyed his industrial town. Kirigakure and Kumogakure had long been at odds, but this act killed any hope of peace between the Great Powers.
News of the assassination quickly reached Kumo. The village’s top analysts discerned the identity of the assailants and prepared a response. However, what might have been a tit-for-tat war behind the shadows quickly escalated into a world-wide conflagration. Hana penned a letter all but confirming Kiri’s involvement. Outraged by Kiri’s consistent belligerency on the world stage along with their brazen attack on Moonspire, Queen Ryuko Shizu von Rose declared war on Kiri. Konoha, Kiri’s longtime ally, was quick to support the archipelago. The Lightning Country had stepped in on Iwa’s behalf during the Mountain Wars and Konoha thought this to be a direct attack on their own territorial sovereignty. Hokage Nyguyen Uchiha declared war on Kumo, citing the nation’s incessant meddling in the Earth Province rebellion.
What followed could only be described as Gurētodaiingu or Great Dying. Each major nation mobilized to 100% war capacity; a state not seen before on the Kishin continent. They marshalled their troops not just within their own borders but colonies, allies, and buffer states. Even nations that were nominally neutral such as Iwa and Suna were suspected of seeing action during the Gurētodaiingu.
The casualties were incalculable. The physical, psychological, and spiritual toll immeasurable. It was by far the bloodiest conflict in recorded history and it would leave a generation of shinobi scarred for life.
The horrors of this war scar the mind but with scars come healing and hardiness. The winning side will receive a one time S-Rank Psychological Damage shield. Alternatively, the carnage of this Theater of War allows one to project their experiences onto others with devastating effect. Such shinobi can deal an additional S-Rank amount of psychological damage with any illusion (one time only).
You can choose either/or but not both. Keep in mind that both of these rewards (the psychological damage shield and additional damage for Genjutsu) can only be used once so use them wisely.
The instances of valor and ingenuity also cannot be ignored. During the course of this conflict, shinobi learn to re-invent their approaches to lethal situations. Victors will also receive a single flawless UA (cannot be the handsealess one unless you have no KKG) that lasts for 3 months IRL.

Mission Goal: Survive.
Description: Hoping to secure a quick victory, Nanadaime Hokage Nyguyen Uchiha believed that with the aid of the Land of Waterfalls and the Land of Water, a quick and decisive victory could be won through a “Scarlet March.” The plan was to blitz through Hot Springs, Frost, and ultimately Kumogakure no Sato, destroying each nation’s fighting spirit as they moved forwards. Konoha-Kiri forces managed to push to the border of the Land of Frost before being pushed back and out of Hot Springs. Kumo then launched a counter-attack on the Land of Rice with the aim of flanking their opponents. The Great Nations were evenly matched and in order to not lose ground, they dug defensive lines that spanned entire nations. Over the course of several long months, the Land of Hot Springs and the Land of Rice were turned into a complex system of trenches and tunnels that were in some cases several stories deep. The trenches were marred by inhumane conditions, the conscription of large swathes of the populace, and an unending sea of casualties on both sides. The environment in both Minor Nations had become disfigured beyond recognition. The stalemate would usher in one of the most vicious aspects of the Gurētodaiingu
The Trenches were a defining period in the War in that, unlike previous conflicts, nearly every shinobi in the world was affected by this theater it in some substantial way. As hordes of young shinobi perished on the frontlines, more were called up only for the process to repeat itself countless times as both sides tried to break the stalemate. This mission is designed to give players an opportunity to roleplay their character's involvement in one of the most defining periods of the War.
A special subforum will be created in the Event forum titled "The Trenches." Here you can RP battles, "socials", and assorted personal plots.
Players will declare a side in their first post in the Trenches (either Kumo or Konoha-Kiri). From there, the first side to hit 20,000 words cumulatively "wins" this particular mission and it is declared “over”.
Special Reward: The winners of this particular battle are eligible for a special reward. Months of running, fighting, and living in the trenches has turned you into a legendary survivalist. You may use waiting time reductions without the drain to your Stamina. This perk lasts for 1 year IRL.

Mission Name: The Grand Kaizoku Clash

Theater of War: The Gurētodaiingu War

Mission Goal: Defeat the Opposition at Sea
Description: In previous wars, control over the Kaizoku Sea was a primary military objective for both the Land of Lightning and Land of Water. The present conflict is no exception. Hoping to bring the war to a speedy conclusion, the Kingdom of Thunder instituted the largest blockade in naval history. Their hope was to completely cut off the Kiri Empire from its lucrative trading partners and force a surrender. Unwilling to back down from a threat, Kiri sent the full might of its naval capacity into the Kaizoku Sea to break the embargo and smash Kumo’s fleet once and for all. The battle will take place at sea with an armada of ships on each side. These ships do not possess any extraordinary capabilities and may be used as more or less floating platforms for combat. Victory is declared when all of the opponents of one side are incapacitated, flee, or surrender.
Payment: 250,000

Mission Goal: Defeat Your Opponent in the Arena
Description: The Modoroki and Todoroki Shrines have long been hallowed grounds for the people of Kishin. What were once a pair of small Shinto shrines have become iconic sites of worship for millions. It was said that Hagoromo unraveled the mysteries of Ninshū at Modoroki and gave his first lesson there. It is further believed that when his life was at its end, Hagoromo spread his chakra throughout the planet while meditating at Todoroki. Over the years, these two holy sites were revered and the local governments erected shrines honoring the Progenitor of Ninshū. All major world religions recognize the importance of the Sage and many clans claim direct descendance through his brother. Therefore, the shrines have always been open to the public regardless of nationality or religious affiliation. Until now.
The war between Kumogakure and Konoha/Kiri has sparked a controversial change in policy. Under pressure from the Royal Government and their allies in the Uchiha Clan, both Nagi Island and O’uzu Island have closed the shrines to only those affiliated with Kiri or Konoha. This act was considered an outrage throughout the Kumo religious community and a direct invasion to liberate the holy shrines was planned. However, rather than risk damaging the priceless statutes and artwork at the shrines, both sides have decided to mediate the conflict through two one-on-one battles. An arena will be constructed on the outskirts of the shrines. Each side will choose one champion to fight for the right of access at each shrine. In the event there is a tie (each side wins the battle for one shrine), then the victors will battle each other.
The logic is that Hagoromo’s spirit still lingers at each shrine and that he will grant favor to the side whose cause is just. While the scale and scope of this battle may be small, its effect on the morale of the belligerents cannot be understated. Whichever side loses will be dealt a crushing blow to their military’s morale.
Special Reward: The winners of this particular battle are eligible for a special reward. To defeat one’s opponent in the presence of the Sage’s shrine confers a special blessing. Renown for this fight is doubled. Additionally, you may learn one jutsu from an element or skill you do not possess so long as you meet all other requirements. This benefit lasts for 3 months IRL.
Payment: 250,000

Mission Goal: Negotiate w/ the Union Bosses to Break the Strike
Description: Revolutionary United Labor is a transnational labor organization with members around the world. They are an informal association that takes laborers and craftsman from all disciplines and organizes them without regard to national differences. Unfortunately, what started as a fairly moderate international union has turned into an unauthorized revolutionary movement. Revolutionary United Labor has taken advantage of the working class’s war weariness. The incessant demands on miners, shipbuilders, fishers, and all manner of labor has led to the largest strike in history. Workers have walked out of factories, picketed their local governments, and in some cases, have engaged in outright sabotage. Major nations have ruled out assassination of union leaders as an option, owing to the fact that it would likely only lead to a violent anti-capitalist revolution. Revolutionary United Labor has stated that while they do not seek an end to war, they want major concessions from all three governments before work resumes. In an act of solidarity, the association declares that no separate labor deal will be negotiated with individual nations. All three global powers must accede to their demands or the industrial war machine will be prevented from working!
In a desperate bid to break the deadlock, each Great Nation has sent a negotiator to speak to the Revolutionary United Labor leader of their respective country. The goal is to smash the worker’s solidarity and secure a lucrative deal. These Union Bosses are masters of persuasion and bargaining so you will need to bring your A-Game. Use every tool in your persuasive arsenal to get them to turn on their union brothers and sisters that reside in the opposing nation.

Whenever you go shopping in your home nation/base’s market place, laborer’s will flock to assist in equipping you. This perk lasts for 6 IRL Months and can only be used for 5 A-Rank items.

Fire Country is blessed with a greater number of materials within its border and it puts them to use via large scale refinement operations. These operations are located in the southeastern portion of country and are well defended at land and sea. Seeking to disrupt Konoha’s output, Kumo plans to utilize one of Damian Darhk’s last inventions. A fleet of advanced submarines capable of traveling underwater at high speeds. They plan on using these submarines to navigate through the Haran Bay and its surrounding islands. Once they arrive, they will conduct an amphibious assault on the shores of Fire Country in a major operation known as “S-Day.” If they are successful, Kumo will be able to establish a beachhead which can be used to conduct further attacks on the Konoha heartland. When the peace of the world was shattered, millions of minds were shattered along with it. The Gurētodaiingu was noted not just for the high death toll but for the traumatizing experiences it inflicted on shinobi and civilian alike. The war in the trenches waged on for months as both sides struggled to gain ground. Eventually, a breakthrough occurred and Kumogakure was able to punch through enemy lines due to the heroic efforts of Tamwyn. The Kingdom of Thunder was further provided a boost in industrial capacity when it was the first to break the Revolutionary United Labor's wildcat strike. However despite these initial setbacks, the Konoha-Kiri Alliance was able to rally its troops to continue fighting after a stunning victory at the Battle of the Icons.
While the remaining battles of the Gurētodaiingu were fought to a stalemate, a select group of ninja in Konoha and Kiri worked together to bring the true purveyors of the war to justice. Hana Kaguya was killed by two members of the Princess Triumverate while attempting to evade arrest at the gates of Kirigakure. The two Princesses then coordinated with Konoha to arrest her accomplices Akihiro Uchiha and Ikomiki Ōtsutsuki. The pair were eventually executed for setting the war in motion. Their deaths paved the way for a peace treaty between the Five Great Nations. Once the historic deal was signed in the Land of Iron, the conflict finally came to an end.
Victors: Everyone and No one.
