    Spoiler:

Marcus waited on the outskirts of the Heavenly Emporium, the airship that had dropped him off returning to the floating city after completing its assigned duty. He was reluctant to leave it as there were quite a few interesting sights to behold in the trade hub of the world. This place was designated as neutral territory, with shinobi from every village working together actively to ensure it stayed that way. Enemies became, if not allies, people who worked together instead of ruthlessly murdering each other for the sake of a village that likely didn't even know their name. He was relaxed in his posture as a martial artist should be though he made sure to keep his back straight and was ready to go at a moment's notice. He kept his sensory abilities up and active, a little wary of his surroundings despite it being neutral territory. You just never knew if someone would take the opportunity to capitalize on supposed peace when there were nations at war with each other. It made Marcus uneasy, but there was little he could do about it.

Today he had been assigned to deal with some bandits robbing and raiding people making their way to the trade hub alongside a shinobi from the Land of Water. A man named Sero who was also a genin like him, though Marcus wasn't sure about his temporary companion's abilities. He knew that his own abilities were average, if that, with the exception of his ability to take damage and keep going when others would have stopped. Those were his only outstanding qualities as a shinobi and even those were outshone by the majority of people wearing a village emblem on their body. Most other genin were better than he was in his eyes, but in the long run that didn't matter to him. As long as he lived the way he chose and got to protect others so they could do the same, he thought he could be a happy man.

The choice of attire for Marcus today was plain; loose fitting black trousers and a sleeveless black shirt made of a thin cotton. He had two holsters on each thigh as well as four hip pouches secured around his waist with the belt that kept his trousers up. Each was full of various ninja tools that could prove useful even to one who wasn't used to using them such as Marcus. Throwing a kunai with any sort of excellence wasn't likely to happen with him, but any idiot could throw a smoke bomb or land a kunai with a tag close enough to cause some damage to whatever he was aiming at. His hair, a dark brown color, was combed back and allowed to be slightly unruly in a messy style that he had come to like in the last few weeks. A simple armband around his left bicep marked him as a shinobi of Kumogakure. Hopefully he wouldn't be left waiting too long; bandits were notorious for attacking people on the road who were alone.

Bad Bandits Empty Re: Bad Bandits

Post by Sero Sat Oct 10, 2020 11:51 pm

There had been stories told of old. The ways of the village hidden in the mist. Monsters that stalked the night and took down entire outposts without a sound. Of the savagery they left in their wake in battle. However as of late Kiri had been seen in a softer light. Returning what was taken and attempting to be a symbol of justice. Perhaps even order. However blood was in those mists. Blood that could never be washed away. No matter how far it was pushed down, eventually the mist would create something that drowned mens hearts in fear. That left witnesses trembling in their passing. In due time even a symbol for justice dripped with wrath. So for somewhere they had said was not to be touched to be so violated so nonchalant. For fools and beggars to raid against their word of warning called for something more than a simple clean up job. No no, this was no trivial thing. If it got out that Kiri could not protect as it said it could others would grow bold. What they needed was not a simple clean up mission. It was not a mess to clean but an opportunity. An opportunity to send a message.

Thus the Abomination had been sent on this mission. Paired with who they will they knew this being would not fail. A man that put even his own Mizukage on guard around him. Sero had been summoned and sent to the heavenly emporium under the guise of simply aiding them with a problem. He was instructed not to end this quickly. That these men could not be simply wiped off the face of the earth in a glorious burst of flame. They needed to be toyed with. To realize their mistakes before knowing they could not evade the consequences. He was to have them regret their raids with every fiber of their being before tearing them apart anyway. Of course it wasn't a direct order from the Mizukage but someone else with authority to send him. A man behind the curtain. However Sero did not care. He held no love or interest for politics. He knew one thing. That he had a purpose and he would fulfill it. He was an instrument of death to the wicked and this was what he did well. So he had left for his task immediatly. Instructions fresh in his mind.

He had been instructed that his partner for this mission was waiting on the edge of the emporium. Already he had been given instructions on how to locate these bandits. This Marcus was a genin in kumo that would be awaiting him. Of course Marcus would sense him before Sero ever emerged from the tree line. It was a strangeness all around him as the wind would grow hot. All the insects and birds went silent and all seemed to be still. As if something was coming. Then the chakra sensory would kick into high gear. Like just at the edge of it this great beast was emerging. Wrath come in the body of a man with nothing resembling humanity in it. Like the thing watching from the dark and licking it's great maw. Sero would emerge into view like a pale being in the dim light. His white robes wrapped tight around him with white pants underneath and bare feet which burned the earth beneath them. His graceful but pale fingers brushed against a tree and left four scorch marks in the bark at his passing. Cold blue eyes framed with equally blue hair would look to him but they seemed so empty. Like a void where a soul should be. Not one hint of a weapon or headband decorated his person. He would stop and for a moment it was as if there was whispers just out of earshot in the shadows. His chakra was like a thing of filth. Like dipping your hands in crude oil. When he spoke though the whispers abruptly stopped.

"I assume you are the one named Marcus. I am known as Sero. If you wouldn't mind we should depart quickly for our target."

Marcus didn't have to wait too long for his "comrade" show up. With hands in his pockets, he would retain a relaxed composure as Sero entered his sensory range. Immediately he could tell that something was off about this dude. He had chakra that was very dark, almost as black as night, and it told him a few other things as well. There was definitely something unique about him judging by the way his chakra moved within his body. Marcus had never encountered chakra like this before if he was telling the truth. It was almost as if this man wasn't quite solid, like he could shift to some other being entirely if he but wove his hands and wished it.

The dark chakra didn't bother Marcus as much as it would bother the regular run of the mill NPC shinobi. After all, Marcus was different. He had someone dictating all of his actions for him, and this magical being who decided how Marcus's life played out didn't really think that Marcus would be too shaken up about the dude approaching him. Now, it's definitely not normal to have chakra as dark and foreboding as this Sero had, but everyone's chakra was different.

Sero approached, inquiring as to whether Marcus was the man he was supposed to meet. The closer Sero got to him, the more Marcus felt like something was off. It made him uncomfortable, prompting a tightening of his shoulders and a slight increase to the serious expression he wore on his face. There was definitely something off about this man. Marcus couldn't quite put a finger on what it was, but it was most assuredly noticeable.

"Yeah, that's me. I'm Marcus Fujio," he replied to Sero's inquiry, giving a slight bow in a show of proper respect to a fellow shinobi. Enemies or not, for this one mission they were to act as allies. If they hated each other for no reason, then there was a good chance both of them would die on this mission. Marcus didn't intend for that to happen if he could help it. After all, he quite enjoyed living. And it was this enjoyment as well as his past experiences with such an abusive dick for a father that gave him the mental fortitude to not succumb to whatever eldritch abomination this man from Kirigakure happened to be.

"If you don't mind me saying, there' something wrong with you. You've got some pretty fucked up chakra if my sesnosry skills mean anything." The response was full of earnestness as well as honesty. Marcus didn't mean the comment to be mean, it was just an observation of simple fact. This dude was weird, so Marcus let him know he was weird. "But anyways, I agree. The bandit issue takes precedence. Really though, what's wrong with you? Your chakra is..." Marcus paused here for a moment, "...weird."

The man confirmed his name and Sero would nod his affirmation. After all not many would remain so calm near him. The previous Kumo nin he had fought with had also kept his cool rather well. Perhaps it was just part of their training to remain so calm under such oppressive nature. Still those cold blue eyes would search passed the man into the woods of the surrounding area. Already he was looking for signs of an enemy. Perhaps foolishly waiting this close to the emporium for more juicy bounties. He did not seem to be armed or armored yet somehow he gave off a sense of being incredibly capable. Almost as if he was inviting an assault on his person and promising swift retribution to the one who would attempt it. He expected the worst of people and often he found his suspicions rewarded. Still at the mention of his chakra being messed up it would earn the man a glance in his direction. His curiosity of what exactly was going on with Sero had been brought up somewhat rudely. Still there would be a moment of silence before Sero would speak up in a calm but quiet voice.

"Some live in a different world from the average human. A world where life fades quickly and one must struggle to breath their first breath. It is of those from such a world that I come from. A being born an abomination in the eyes of those who rightly fear me. I am built for one thing and only that one thing. I am a dealer in fate bringing balance to those who torment the innocence. The blood of the wicked stains my hands and will stain it further today. We should be off if it's all the same to you."

With that he would wait for a direction to be selected and quietly he would walk in the direction indicated to him by either his partner or from consideration of the last known enemy position. His passage through the woods left a silence as a mist would blanket the ground almost like a layer of cotton that clung to his feet like it was reaching out to him. His bare feet didn't seem to mind what he stepped on. No twigs snapped under foot and no blood was left behind when he would step on something that appeared sharp. It was as if he was immune to the dangers. Still he was walking at a calm and slow pace. A beast stalking his prey. Still he would listen for when his ally spoke. Even for a monster like himself communication was key in a mission. He was a simple being of wrath. Someone more attuned for tracking suited different needs. Still it was as if there was something else with them. A massive beast older than any of them could remember. Darkened by it's connection to him. Perhaps the most unsettling thing was even when Sero was not watching him...that inner being seemed to be.

Marcus listened quietly while Sero answered his inquiry. The Kirigakure shinobi didn't appear to take offense at his blunt words which was a good sign in his opinion. That meant communication would be easier since he wouldn't have to dress up his words nearly as much as he would have to for somebody who fainted at the mere hint of a curse. To each their own, but Marcus wasn't one to let such minor details get in the way if he could help it. What did it matter if you came across as rude if you lived through the ordeal because of it? In the end, that's what was important.

Now, the way this guy explained what was going on with his chakra caused Marcus to slant his head slightly, face turning from one of seriousness to something closer to doubtfulness. Not of this world? What the hell was that supposed to mean? He had chakra even if it was messed up, so that made Marcus certain the man was most assuredly from this world. Of course, he wasn't a master of physics or space-time ninjutsu so that was mostly his internal biases making that call. Still, Marcus couldn't help but feel like this Sero person had more than a couple screws loose as he wrapped up his explanation.

    "Right..."
Marcus replied, the doubt that showed on his face coating his reply as well. Sero began looking around for the bandits they were supposed to take care of for the Emporium, but Marcus doubted they would make their attacks so close to the city. That would be far riskier than doing it a few hundred yards away, perhaps even a mile, to minimize the risk of getting caught by those in the city who would be able to watch the bandits mug people but not do anything about it for some reason.

Marcus began to walk away from the city, hands still in his pockets, hoping that Sero would follow him. "Well, let's head this way and see what we find. I'm a sensory type, so it'd be best for me to take point just in case they're thinking about setting up an ambush for us. Even a small heads up is better than none," he said to Sero casually. "How long have you been at the Emporium," he queried, attempting to pull some more information out of the Kirigakure shinobi. May as well try to get as much information as possible, right?

Post by Sero Sun Oct 11, 2020 11:42 pm

Sero would quietly watch the man as he took lead. Inclining that he was a sensory nin so he should take lead. It was a solid tactic at least. He would rather avoid giving the enemy the advantage of the initiative. It was common knowledge that the first one to take the fight to the other held the pace. The first to strike put the enemy on the defense. His cold blue eyes would look to the back of the man from Kumo. So calm and casual. It was clear they didn't recognize Sero from any reports of his last assignment in Kumo. Or if he did he was awfully sure of himself.

For now Sero couldn't afford to see him as the enemy. He had failed his last assignment but now this was what he did. He wanted to see if this one was as capable as the other. As the flying man with his clones. Sero would quietly step forward and follow behind the kumo nin in front of him. Blue eyes glowing in the shadows of the forest as his feet left slightly burned marks where he walked. He felt excitement again. Part of him was looking forward to the hunt. The other was looking forward to seeing this ones capabilities.

Not more than a couple of seconds passed before the one in front of him began with what sounded like small talk but information was clearly being gathered. Sero's fingers would twitch before he pulled his index finger under his thumb and popped the knuckle. A trained method to calm himself quickly. If he viewed the kumo nin as an enemy he would only create more problems. If he viewed him as an enemy the blood lust would come forth. Things only went one way after that. So in a calm voice with blue eyes watching the back of the man in front of him. Sero would respond.

"I recently arrived on assignment. Here to do good works." he would reply quietly. His eyes finally blinking before going back to staring without expression. If the other wanted to feign small talk he would let him. For a moment he caught a distant scent. Smoke perhaps? Like wood burning.

"And yourself? Does Kumo seek to protect it's investments now that moon spire is so fresh in everyone's minds?"
It was a stab at Kumo's pride. The world knew about the incident. A death like Damien Darhk was not one even Sero failed to learn of.

Post by Marcus Mon Oct 12, 2020 7:55 pm

Good works? I guess that's one way to put it, Marcus thought curiously to himself as Sero responded to his inquiry. It wasn't very informative, but he hadn't really been expecting too much out of that initial question to the Kirigakure shinobi. Intelligence gathering was always more difficult than that, but he figured his sensory abilities would help diffuse the difficulty somewhat. It was the second part of Sero's reply that was... annoying.

The response given to Marcus wasn't one he had been anticipating. At least, not as the first thing to come out of the Kirigakure shinobi's mouth. Perhaps if the conversation had gotten a bit more heated, but nope, he just jumped right into it. With Marcus at the point position Sero would not be able to see his lips draw down in a slight frown and his eyebrows furrow down in annoyance. Where Marcus was just trying to get a bit of information on who this man was, Sero was intentionally trying to stir up emotions. It was a bit irksome, but a tactic that was valid as a response to his own intentions.

Marcus said nothing for some time before replying to Sero, thinking carefully about his next choice of words. The faint hint of smoke got to him as he thought, the pair of them getting a decent distance away from the Emporium itself. "I'm here doing what I'm told to do," he started, each word chosen deliberately to avoid direct confrontation before the mission had begun. "But there's not much a genin like me can do to stop a dedicated attack. Every side loses important people in war. Kumogakure may have been the first, but we probably won't be the last," he finished. There wasn't a threatening tone to his words or even any hostility. A touch of the annoyance he felt seeped through, but the majority of his reply was delivered in a calm voice, almost monotone. It was obvious Marcus was looking to avoid conflict. At least, for now that is.

The smell of smoke got a bit stronger as the duo proceeded, and after another minute or two Marcus would hold his hand up in a gesture signaling Sero to halt. Marcus would do the same, keeping still as a signature entered his sensory range. Slowly and deliberately, Marcus would squat to avoid making any noise as he touched the ground with his fingertips to extend his sensory range. Up ahead and to the east in the woods he got a read on six signatures, three grouped together in what he assumed was a camp of some sort with three others dispersed around it. Those would be the patrols, and one of them was nearby. Marcus motioned to Sero to move closer with the hand not touching the ground.

The whisper he delivered was cool and measured as Marcus wished to convey his thoughts quickly and concisely while not making too much noise. "I sense six up ahead and to the east, approximately eighty meters away. There's a patrol of three spread out around what I think is their camp which has three more in close proximity. One of the patrolmen is near us, about twenty-five meters inside the treeline." Marcus pointed at the direction the guard was in. Not quite to their two o' clock, but near it. "He's alone, so if we're quiet I think we can take one of them down and increase our chances of success. Got any ideas on how we should proceed?" Marcus had an idea of his own, but he wanted them both to be on the same page. The tactics from two different villages were likely just as different, so making sure their plan of action was communicated effectively would be key more than in most missions.

Bad Bandits Empty Re: Bad Bandits

Post by Sero Wed Oct 14, 2020 1:59 am

Sero was irked that he didn't sense fear or anger in this one. Most people held some effect under his sway but this man took so little notice of it. As if Sero were just another stranger. A common man. It was frustrating. Still this one kept his cool even when prodded for effect. How unique these kumo nin were at keeping their cool. He mentioned some reasonable facts and Sero would nod before turning his attention more to the mission. It was true that there were important and unimportant casualties in war. A mere genin could do little about it. Even Sero doubted at his current state he could do much to turn the tide of war. Even on a mission he had been sealed away temporarily by that man in kumo. Sero knew he had the power to reshape the side of a mountain or change the weather but all of it had been canceled out. If this man in front of him was similar...well that made for more interesting sport. He felt the need to show this one power. To show him his capabilities. It was a poor thing to do for a shinobi but Sero was no ninja. He was the hang man.

Sero had a mission to make examples of these men but to him, it was so much more than a mere assignment. In fact Sero rather enjoyed destroying the enemies will before their bodies. He liked to see the hopelessness in men who deserved to lose it all. So for now he obeyed and kept low and quiet. A sensor nin was important to deploy properly on the battlefield. He used Azreal for a similar purpose back on their home missions. Still they would pause before this one would make his report quietly. Sero would gaze into the woods but find nothing from where he stood. The scent of smoke was strong though. A camp. How casual they were being. As if they feared no retribution and judgement. Sero would hunt with his eyes for a moment more before the mention of a scout would bring his eyes in that direction. Studying it for a moment. If they had a sensor of their own they would of adjusted already or had no need for scouts in the first place. His eyes would shift to the mans personal armory. He should be capable of taking on one lone scout caught by surprise.

"I will move towards the camp and act as a distraction. While I do silently eliminate anyone away from the camp. Do any of the bandits posses elemental affinities? Those I would target first."

Bad Bandits Empty Re: Bad Bandits

Post by Marcus Wed Oct 14, 2020 4:45 pm

Marcus had asked for ideas, not to be treated like an idiot. He knew very well that targeting those with the most potential firepower was the way to go, but he kept his expression neutral as Sero expressed his perspective on things. It looked like Sero wasn't pretending to not have a sensing ability but truly did not possess it. That was good information to know. He also seemed confident in his ability to distract three or potentially more dangerous men at once. Maybe he was a good fighter, or perhaps faster than he looked? Marcus didn't have the best ability to discern information from just looking at people so all he could really do was guess with the little information he had. From what he could sense, this man felt like he had the ability to use Suiton. It was prominent within his signature, but the dark and twisted nature Marcus was also picking up distorted most of the rest of what he could sense. Sensing abilities did not mean one was a genius at the art, after all, especially for one of Marcus's mediocre skill.

The Kumo genin would whisper a response to Sero before deciding on a course of action. "One of the ones in camp feels like he has an affinity for doton, though his signature isn't exactly powerful. He's got less chakra than either one of us does if I'm reading him right, so I doubt he'll be using many high level ninjutsu." Marcus stopped briefly to stand again, lightly dusting his fingers on his trousers before continuing.

"The other two on patrol are on the other side of the camp from where we are and are staying at least forty meters away from it. I think it'd be best for each of us to try and take out one of the patrolmen before advancing on the main camp. I like the odds of two against three with a potential fourth than I do one against three with a potential five while I take out the sixth." Marcus closed his eyes briefly, ceasing his sensory abilities and then focusing hard on hiding his own chakra signature. At the very least it would prevent a potential sensor in their midst from detecting him and at the worst it was a safe precaution to take. He was confident in his taijutsu abilities.

He turned his head slightly to look at Sero before finishing what he wished to say. "I know where the other two are, so you go ahead and take out the one that's closest to us. Wait a bit before striking so I can make my way to the one more to the south and take him out at around the same time. Try to hide the body and then meet back up here so we can decide on how we want to assault the main camp. Does that sound good to you?"

Truthfully, Marcus wanted to meet back up here just in case one of them came away injured. That would add a wrench to any plan that was made beforehand and would good to know going into the main attack. It was even possible one of them would be seriously injured or killed if the circumstances weren't right, so meeting back up to share their experiences made the most sense to him. Of course, he was also a relatively fresh genin and had never led any kind of expedition like this.

Should Sero agree, Marcus would nod his affirmation of the plan and turned to move around the bandit closest to them that he had detected earlier. It wouldn't take long for Sero to get to him, but Marcus had to make his way carefully through the woods without snapping any twigs. One of the basic lessons of shinobi training was to teach a pupil how to move without making too much sound and was a skill that any successful hunter possessed. For a shinobi, it was simply expected. While Marcus wasn't exactly the best at speed or coordinating his movements, going slow enough to focus on what he was doing paired with his shinobi training allowed him to move quietly through the woods towards his target.

    The game was on.

Bad Bandits Empty Re: Bad Bandits

Post by Marcus Wed Oct 14, 2020 7:29 pm

Sero didn't really say anything in response to the plan Marcus had come up with. But for this man specifically, Marcus took that as a sign of affirmation. At least, it wasn't an outright denial of the plan. Marcus took off as planned, Sero staying back where the two had initially stopped. It took Marcus a good minute to reach the are he figured the second sentry would be patrolling, all the while refraining from making any unnecessary noises within the trees. The man hadn't spotted Marcus approaching and from his position stood with his back facing Marcus. He had been in the middle of inspecting the area and was getting ready to head a different direction.

Marcus carefully began to approach the man, his right hand moving up to chest height and hovering over his heart. He ceased hiding his signature and began to channel chakra into that hand, taking aim at the man as he slowly walked back towards the camp. He still hadn't detected Marcus, so he definitely wasn't a sensory type shinobi. That was good, as it made this much easier. If the man hadn't been armed with a sword Marcus would have gone in with taijutsu to try for a silent kill but it didn't seem to be the most prudent course of action. Marcus inhaled deeply, finalizing his preparations for the attack.

    That's when the scream came.

The man he was targeting shifted his attention back towards where the scream had been, hand moving to his sword. Marcus swore softly to himself at Sero's incompetence and slid his hand across his chest, multiple blades of wind releasing from the movement and converging on his target. They coalesced into a single blade of air a couple meters before hitting the man who had seen Marcus just before the attack and had drawn his sword.

It didn't really help him much, the blade of wind breaking the lower quality weapon in half before slicing into the man's body. His left arm was severed and a large gash crossed him from left shoulder to right hip from the impact of the jutsu. Marcus's sensory abilities were up and ready to go after releasing the jutsu, his body moving out to approach his downed target. A few large branches had been sliced through from the smaller blades of air, though no large trees had fallen from the cuts thankfully. Thinking quickly, he grabbed the broken half of the blade off the ground as he approached the man who was still in shock. A quick thrust down through the man's throat along with a quick jerk to free it ensured he wouldn't alert his comrades. Blood squirted out of his neck, spraying onto Marcus's right pant leg. The same hand dropped the piece of the broken blade, blood coating that hand from the initial thrust and pull.

Marcus moved a few meters from the corpse and touched the ground to monitor the situation at the camp from afar. All three were on alert and the fourth man was approaching from the far side of the camp from his patrol. Sero was making his way towards the main camp with the patrolman he was supposed to have killed right next to him. Was he dragging him along for some reason? The bandit's chakra signature was in constant flux which indicated a great amount of distress. Another soft curse escaped his lips as Marcus took off for the main camp. A mist had begun to descend on the area, so Marcus would release a burst of chakra all around him and throughout the forest in order to dispel the mist. He figured that was from Sero, but after butchering his part of the plan Marcus had no intention of letting the Kiri shinobi have such an effect on the battlefield. That, and he still wanted to see what his opponents were doing. Sensing them and accurately predicting what they would do were two different things entirely for one as mediocre as he.

Getting to the main camp took a bit of time and Sero reached it before Marcus did. He made sure to go around before making his own move on the group so as to not catch Sero with his attack. The Kiri shinobi had already engaged the group on his own and... what the hell was that?

Marcus stopped when he was fifteen meters from Sero's one o' clock, sensing what the man's body was doing as well as what he was planning on doing to the bandits. The patrolman was clearly in great amounts of pain, but the other three had all attacked Sero. He hadn't even tried to dodge anything, but instead his body had... well, the only way Marcus could describe it was that Sero's body morphed to prevent any kind of physical damage from hitting him. That was definitely good information to know about the man. If weapons and physical attacks didn't work on him, then that meant any confrontation with him would need to be solved with chakra.

The disturbing quality of his chakra and the grotesque way in which he handled killing the bandits made Marcus nauseous. His father had been abusive, but this Sero seemed to take pleasure out of torturing people for the sake of it. His chakra fluctuated with his body shape, but it seemed he was... happy? If not happy, then less negative than he had felt like when Marcus first encountered him. A few hand seals woven with both hands on Marcus's part preceded his approach on the main camp. When he was ten meters away, Marcus would line himself up with the two remaining bow using bandits as well as the one approaching directly behind them from where Marcus was standing. A large inhalation of breath followed by a large burst of wind would fire straight in front of him at quite the rate of speed. The only warning anybody would have would be the ripping apart of trees as the strong jutsu blew away everything in its path on the way to the bandits.

One of the bow wielding bandits had quicker than average reaction times, barely managing to dodge out of the way of the attack. The other, however, took the full brunt of the assault and would be slammed by a massive burst of wind mixed with tree branches. There was little chance he survived, and Marcus kept the attack up in order to nail the bandit approaching the camp. The added debris from the forest aided in this endeavor. This bandit managed to avoid the majority of the attack, being on the edge of Marcus's sensory range. However, his signature spiked in alarm and wavered slightly. The man was in pain, meaning he wasn't dead from the attack but was certainly injured. Marcus had purposefully kept Sero and his two victims out of the width of the attack, meaning only to attack the bandits.

Marcus emerged from what remained of the forest into a new clearing created by his jutsu, eyes on Sero's first victim. His mouth curved down in disgust, not impressed with the way in which Sero had handled the patrolman. Eyes missing and, from the looks of it, the tongue was gone as well. The archer that had avoided the wind jutsu had landed on his bow and snapped it. He now wielded his belt knife, a length of steel about a foot long, brandishing it at Sero.

    "M-monster! What are you?!"

Marcus made no move to attack the man further, keeping track of the wounded bandit out of their sight that was apparently staggering around to try and take them from behind. He wouldn't get the drop on them though. Truthfully, Marcus was curious as to what Sero was too. Being able to do that with your body was unnatural, at best.

Bad Bandits Empty Re: Bad Bandits

Post by Sero Thu Oct 15, 2020 12:03 pm

Sero would glance up as the mist faded from view with a gust of wind. As it did his lips would turn almost transparent showing rows of teeth as a growl echoed across the forest. Like a large beast that was unhappy with an intrusion. Still if he wasn't going to follow the plan it would be prudent to cancel out a mist. Though he supposed as a sensory nin he likely should have been able to distinguish the source. Irritation was all this was though. One less part to his game he was playing. Like a toy being taken away from him. The others facing him seemed equally as surprised by it. Not sure as to what was going on. Still the two were dying at his feet as they twitched in extreme pain from their lungs filled with liquids they could not save themselves from. He wasn't moving towards the others as he stood between the two dying men. The fear one felt just as they realized they were dying and could not be saved was such an incredible dish for his darkened mental pallet. Along with that watching their team mates die such horrible deaths with the realization dawning on them that they could not stop this thing in front of them was spreading it's own flavor of fear.

However a gust of wind ripping up tree's from outside of their group drew his attention. Catching one of the two in front of him and dragging him off to his death while the other dived to avoid it caused him to grit his teeth. They were supposed to die slow. That was his job and for two of them they were. But that one and likely the other scout were dead so quickly it was a mercy. He would look to the man from Kumo as he emerged into the scene. Sero knew that jutsu...the man he had fought had used it against him before. Perhaps wind was a common element in Kumo. Blue eyes would regard him for a moment as he contemplated adding one more to the list. The bandits got to him was easy enough to say. However despite being from an enemy nation he was not the target here. He was not one of the wicked to be punished from what Sero had seen so far. Cold and collected but not a target as of yet.

The question of what was he would catch Seros attention as he turned those glowing blue eyes back to the bandit in front of him clutching his broken bow. Not that the thing would have helped him before but now he was unarmed. Most would have considered taking him in for questioning but that wasn't the mission. Sero was there to eliminate a threat. He would turn and walk over to the young man. Watching as he tried to scoot back until his back hit a tree. Scramble as he might now he was caught and trembling. The shadows clung to Sero and darkened his face but those blue eyes seemed to glow as he would stand over the man. Tears forming as the man began to sob while looking upon this monster. Sero would speak in a cold voice.

"Criminals always seem to be so surprised when I am sent. As if they thought their injustice would go ignored. I am the justice for all the lives you have taken. You broke the rules. Now I am you're judge, jury and executioner. May fate pity your soul for your death will make even hell shudder."

The man whimpered in response before Sero began to form hand signs. Slower and more methodical than usual. He wanted the man to watch his doom coming. Rat > Dog > Ox followed by  Bird, Ox, Sheep. His right hand would extend out and a water whip would form coiling down to the ground from his hand like an attachment. However if that wasn't bad enough bone barbed hooks would form along the length of it randomly. With that the mans eyes fell on it. He began to sob as he raised his arms to defend himself but it mattered not to Sero. Instead he would begin to swing his arm over and over again. The whip cracking over and over again as he tore at the man. Barbed hooks ripping chunks of flesh away bit by bit as the man screamed in agony until he was a torn up man gurgling on his own blood with his flesh no longer taking on the appearance of a man. Brutally whipped to death as pieces of him were scattered all over the ground and tree.

Bad Bandits Empty Re: Bad Bandits

Post by Marcus Thu Oct 15, 2020 7:51 pm

Sero certainly didn't seem too happy with Marcus but that wasn't any of his concern. He waited to see what Sero would do with the remaining bandits, the two at his feel already suffering horribly as they died. They would be dead soon anyways, so the only thing he could do was give mercy to the remaining bandits. Their mission was to get rid of the bandits, not torture them to death for ones own sadistic sense of pleasure. The Kiri nin intimidated the knife wielding bandit until the man backed into a tree. Sero replied to the man's question with a bit of a monologue which terrified the man even more. By the end of it, the chakra signatures of the other two bandits had disappeared. Where there had once been life, there was now the tortured corpses of two men.

A whip made out of water materialized into Sero's hand and spikes began to form on the surface of the weapon. A frown formed on Marcus's face at that. There was no reason to kill the man so cruelly, no matter what he had done. Death was death, dragging it out served no purpose other than Sero getting his rocks off.

With that in mind, Marcus made his way towards the two as Sero began to whip the man. Hand seals were woven on his approach until he was to the side of the two. Aiming for the man's neck, Marcus would again utilize the Wind Release: Slash ninjutsu to launch the sharp blade of wind at the bandit. He aimed it in such a way that the tree would take the rest of the damage, making sure to avoid hitting Sero with the jutsu at all. The blade made contact, swiftly putting an end to the man's life by taking his head. Sero would have only gotten off four or five strikes, not enough to kill or really inflict true pain upon the man.

The darkness to Sero's chakra made sense now. It might have frightened most, but Marcus knew what darkness could manifest in every man's heart. His own father had proven that to him from a young age. No, he was not frightened by such malicious intent. It only served to strengthen his own resolve to never become like that himself. It unnerved him how dark the chakra was, but all that did was prove to him just how many different levels of depravity existed within mankind. This man was sick. Nothing more, nothing less. To always try and uphold justice in the best way possible was what Marcus wished to strive for. He was not the best man, not the strongest, not the smartest, but he thought he was a good man who could deliver the justice this world needed. What Sero was doing... that was not justice. It could almost be considered a crime if this was not a sanctioned mission.

"That's enough. We're here to eliminate them, not treat them like toys we wish to destroy. Have your fun some other time," he stated somewhat coldly to Sero. Marcus definitely did not like this man, not one bit. "There's still one more left hobbling this way. They're injured, so it shouldn't be too hard to take them out. We should wait to see if he comes to us and then take him out swiftly," he finished. His emerald eyes would meet Sero's should the Kiri nin looked to him, a confident and determined light hidden behind the pools of sharp green.

Bad Bandits Empty Re: Bad Bandits

Post by Sero Fri Oct 16, 2020 1:32 am

Sero had set about to punish this man. The screams echoing out into the forest as he had to punish someone. Only two had suffered thus far. His point of being there was to ensure anyone who saw what happened there would never think to cross the emporium again. Cruelty was a tactic used to ensure a safe future. With shock and awe came willingness to surrender. It was only when the enemy truly knew what lengths you would go to that they chose to bend knee. However despite his clear intentions to punish this one suddenly the other stood next to him and with a wave of his hand removed the targets head. Sero would let his eyes widen in shock. For him he didn't see what he was doing as wrong. Just what was expected of him. Joy or no joy it was the work he excelled at. Slowly the shock would fade from his eyes before those cold blue eyes would shift to the man next to him. His mission partner from Kumo taking liberties. Speaking to him of what these criminals were and how to treat them. Even mentioning that only one remained and was coming their way.

Sero would turn and step up to the man now standing face to face with him. Tilting his head with narrowed eyes. Speaking in a low tone. "My fun? I think you misunderstand me. This is my purpose for being here. I am justice. Do you think they haven't tormented innocents? Killed women and children for their own gain? The reports show refugees from the war dead next to their raided caravans. Nothing much to even be gained from them but what they could grab before the war reached them. You see me as evil, but who decides what is evil and what is justified? These men are but animals gone feral. With their deaths a message will be sent to other ferals like them. How is it that you go about defining good and evil? Perhaps your world is just that much softer than mine. Do not get in my way again."

With that he would turn. The man had reached the battlefield. Holding his broken arm at his side with blood running down his face. He would stop limping as he reached the clearing. Unarmed as he laid eyes on all his dead allies. Men who had bonded in their own wickedness and the closest thing he had to friends. He would drop to his knees and clutch his face with his one good hand as he wailed in dismay. He had thought they could take on anyone foolish enough to come after them. But instead they had been decimated by these two. They never had a chance. Tears rolled down his face as Sero approached. Standing before him as he saw a knife in the mans belt. He would reach down as the man stared straight ahead. The fight leaving his eyes as he just stared at his friends. Sero would draw the mans knife before circling around behind him. Dragging the side of the blade along the mans face before moving to stand behind him. From there he would make the end almost surgical. Separating the brain stem with one thrust.

With that Sero would let the body drop with the knife still in it. Cold blue eyes watching his mission partner as now they stood about ten meters away from each other. Bodies all around them in the woods. Neither really appreciating the other. Sero would speak again and as he did whispers seemed to echo in the shadows as if from some distant place, Echoing his words.

"So tell me Kumo nin, Will you go file your report and collect your pay? Or perhaps you wish to force your way upon me? If you wish to try I will show you my true power. If you wish to walk away, I will allow it as well."

Bad Bandits Empty Re: Bad Bandits

Post by Marcus Sat Oct 17, 2020 3:26 pm

Marcus eyed Sero as he made his little speech, his chakra fluctuating as he made it. There was no fear in Marcus now that he knew what kind of man Sero was. Sero was the type of person Marcus had dealt with for most of his life, though he was the one who felt the most wrong out of all of them. He would grant the Kiri shinobi that much, at least. He was searching for a justification to his cruelty, trying to deny even to himself that he derived pleasure from acts such as this. Truly, this one was a sadist of the highest caliber. Once he finished his speech and went to turn, Marcus would reply.

"Torturing them will bring none of their victims back. All it does is put you on the same level as them, and lying to yourself over how you feel about it is pointless."

The reply was not delivered with any type of hostility, it was just a statement of fact on Marcus's part. Even if this man denied it, Marcus could sense that pain was a feeling he enjoyed inflicting on others. Marcus doubted he would feel any different about inflicting pain on these bandits as he would upon a woman stealing bread to feed her child. Suffering was this man's existence, much as it had been Marcus's a few years back. But he had chosen a different path from the Kiri shinobi, and as such they were on opposite ends of a spectrum. Where Sero relished in the suffering, Marcus denied its hold on him. Where Sero found justice in his tortures, Marcus found justice in his mercies. Alike, yet different.

Sero made his way to the final bandit, killing the man quickly when compared to his previous barbarous actions. Then the Kiri shinobi turned to Marcus, the words that came out of his mouth not surprising the Kumogakure shinobi in the slightest. For a few moments, Marcus only stared at Sero before replying.

"One day, I will kill you. But I will not violate the trust of my village in these lands to do so as you are so ready to do. Even an animal like you should have enough grit to respect that." This time, the words were delivered as a promise. They were calm, collected, with a sureness behind them that teetered on the edge of a lie to himself. And Marcus did believe his words, delusional or not. Whatever this man was... there was a way to kill him, and Marcus would figure out what it is.

"The question now is if you're able to restrain yourself enough to make it that far. We should make our report for now, and then you should be wary of others. I doubt I'm the only one who will come to feel this way about you, Sero of Kirigakure."

Bad Bandits Empty Re: Bad Bandits

Post by Sero Sat Oct 17, 2020 5:54 pm

Sero was quickly growing tired of the moral debate with the other man. Clearly they saw the world differently. There was nothing to gain from continuing. Still those cold blue eyes would simply watch the man as bodies laid between them. Both of them effective killers by the looks of things. Each of them having dispatched an equal amount of people. Still the man spoke of wishing to kill him one day but not here. Not where promises would be broken. Sero was of a different mind where accidents happened during missions but he would not fight a man simply for a threat to his person. Not one that hadn't gotten in the way of his mission other than some perturbing moments. The suggestion to go and fill in their report instead brought a surprising reaction from Sero. He did not push the matter but instead frowned. Had the man attacked him Sero could at the very least claim self defense. But now he would not push the matter further. The killing intent calmed in the area as Sero turned to begin walking back to the emporium. Leaving a series of bodies for the animals in the wilderness to consume unless his partner wished to bury them. Speaking over his shoulder as he seemed to move into the shadows that clung to him. Like a living being.

"Oh many will come for me. I am sure. When they do, I shall bury them all."

With that Sero would seem to fully turn his back to Marcus. Usually a move only fools did. However there was little to fear now. Not from a man who did not have the intent to attack him now. Nor for someone virtually immune to damage. Instead he would leave his mission partner behind in the woods. No longer needing his sensory or if ever, worried for Marcus's safety. Instead he would go file his report of mission completion. Letting the investigation team confirm it in their own time before payment would be delivered to his temporary residence on the most outer part of the emporium. His mind thinking of those from Kumo who might come for him one day. He would need more power to dispatch of them but it was within his reach. The room would darken as the walls trembled. A slight smile on his face as his eyes would seem to glow in the dark space. Power was his to command. He would survive all of them.

Post by Marcus Sat Oct 17, 2020 7:31 pm

Marcus watched Sero leave, the man deciding to respect the neutrality of the Emporium. That surprised him a little bit. He had been expecting a fight to break out between the two of them, but Sero had at least a scrap of respect inside of him somewhere. He made a comment about knowing others will come for him as well as promising to kill them all.

"There's always someone stronger," Marcus said as Sero walked away, the Kiri shinobi likely having not heard the comment. His eyes drifted to the corpses strewn about the clearing. He wondered briefly if he should burn them but decided it wasn't worth the chakra with someone like Sero nearby. He couldn't be sure if the man would stay peaceful or not, so he waited a few minutes before following behind Sero to get back to the Emporium. There he would collect his payment after making his own report of the mission, his mind drifting towards thoughts of how he could fight someone who couldn't be touched. It was certainly an intriguing thought, that was for sure.
